Toddler Room 1
Summer News
This Summer we will be doing an abundance of water play outside in the hot sun! We will be splashing at the water table, making colored ice, and spraying water with spray bottles and water squirters. Our friends also love any opportunity to use sponges and scrub brushes with soapy water for some good clean fun. Be sure to pack lots of changes of clothes and keep some spare shoes in your child’s cubby. The children will be helping us make fruit salad and popsicles to stay refreshed and beat the heat. We can’t wait for a super fun summer!
June Recap
In June we had the opportunity to explore the many native animals that live in California’s oceans, beaches, and forests. We also talked about colorful racecars as well as many types of vehicles you can find in the air, on land, or in the water. Our friends loved to match the vehicle pictures on the shelves with the vehicle’s pictures on our bulletin board that they had beautifully colored with markers.
Our toddlers continued practicing their gluing skills to create some awesome trains. We used paint in many ways like on coffee filters or rolled on to paper with the wheels of a truck. The children had lots of fun working with dried pasta by dying it and spooning it into pots. Father’s Day Coffee and Donuts was also a huge success all thanks to the wonderful families that came to participate! We loved singing and dancing with our adorable little friends and watching you work as a team with your little ones to create gorgeous macaroni bracelets.
May Recap
In May, all our classmates have taken a great interest in keeping our class clean, whether it be wiping the tables, putting away our dishes and throwing away our trash, or sweeping. It has been exciting to see the children become so independent when taking care of their environment. Our caterpillars have become beloved class pets. At circle time, we love to move like caterpillars and butterflies. Our friends are also great gardeners. Our tomato plants are thriving! The children have become paleontologists, digging up dinosaurs in the sandbox and pressing dinosaurs into dough to make fossils. Everyone wanted to paint their dinosaur fossil blue! We have had the privilege of exploring beautiful art from Eritrea as we introduced the continent of Africa, which we have discovered on our globe. The children have shown a lot of excitement towards their bin of African animals, which have been fed and given baths by many of our students! Lastly, thank you to all the mommies who sent us pictures and enjoyed our Mother’s Day Tea!
In June I am expecting to see all our children’s independence continue to grow. There have been many friendships formed and they will continue to blossom as these toddlers practice asking for a turn, waiting patiently, and giving a friend in need a pat on the back and a hug. I am excited to continue reviewing our letter sounds with Sandpaper Letters. We will be naming and identifying different vehicles as well as matching pictures of construction vehicles to objects. We will practice making bread like in The Little Red Hen by pouring ingredients and kneading. Our art for the month of June will be California-inspired, using orange poppy petals, beach sand, and brown paint for grizzly bear masks!
April Recap
Hello parents! April was an exciting month where we learned all about Australian animals and landmarks, volcanoes, Earth Day, and recycling. We learned how to take care of plants and flowers and we can't wait to see the seeds we planted grow into a full-blown tomato plant (fingers crossed!) We discussed how caterpillars become butterflies and reviewed all our letter sounds at circle time. Our toddlers have been working hard!
March Recap
Hello parents! Thank you for another wonderful month of learning fun! In the month of March, our children learned all about the rainforest and rainbows. We made some amazing art projects like painting the giant anaconda, sponge painting rainbows, and using leaves to make beautiful works on art. We interacted with so many rainforest animals like sloths, monkeys, gorillas, jaguars, and tigers! The children practiced the letter sounds for x, y, and z.
February Recap
What a fun month we had in February! Our toddlers enjoyed a classroom party for Valentines Day and made Valentines Day bags for all their goodies received from friends.
We studied the continent of Asia and learned so much about China with The Great Wall, its Terracotta Army sculptures and enjoyed making a group collage of the Asian people in their traditional dress and popular foods.
We also had fun creating a Friendship Tree in class with our own individual handprints!
January Recap
Toddlers (this needs work but don’t know that I will get to having her correct it today. We are down 2).
The month of January was fun for our toddlers with learning about penguins, orcas, seals, and polar bears; where they live and what they eat.
To emphasize the idea of these sea creatures’ climate, we made a couple sensorial works of edible snow and ice. The toddlers used figurines to swim deep like an orca or a penguin. Or to climb up high atop mountains of snow with polar bears! Language grew through discussions of these fabulous creatures and the study of our letter sounds for o, p, q and r. Thank you for help with bringing in objects to share in class.😊
In remembrance of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., we colored a picture and presented black and white photos of his memorable speech, “I Have a Dream!”
December Recap
In December, we prepared for a visit from Santa Claus in our toddler class. We learned he has a long white beard, wears a red cap and coat, and can be heard shouting to his reindeer, “HO! HO! HO!” We practiced for our Christmas Performance by singing and dancing. We had so much fun with our families who came to hear us and sing along!
The theme for December was "Seasons and Holidays". The children created a snow blizzard by dipping their fingertips in white paint. We also made pastings of the celebration of Hanukah and Christmas lights. We even made our own edible snowballs that were chilled like real snow!
In December, we also learned to recognize triangles in common objects like a triangular shaped corn chip or a slice of pizza or watermelon with Picture-to-Picture matching. In Language, we learned sounds for the letters " l " - " n " and used the Mystery Bag to discover objects for lion, mouse, and net.
November Recap
In November, the toddlers were engaged in various exciting and educational activities. The month was started by learning the sounds for the letters "i" and "k" and the objects that begin with the same sounds. The sounds of the letters "a" to "k" were reviewed using various resources, making the learning experience more interactive and engaging. For their math lessons, the concept of size was explored using nature. Various-sized pinecones were used to learn about small, big, and bigger. As the pinecones were collected, their different sizes were discussed and compared. A nature hunt was undertaken for their science lessons to find yellow, red, and brown leaves, pine needles, and other fall items. These items were then added to the science shelf, and the children enjoyed exploring them and learning about the changes in nature during the fall season.
As Thanksgiving approached, manners at the table were discussed, and the foods that might be seen at a traditional Thanksgiving feast were explained. The children learned about turkeys and their unique characteristics and practiced saying, "Gobble, Gobble!". The month's highlight was the Friendsgiving meal shared with their classmates. The children used their creativity and made their own placemats and turkey headbands for the occasion. Everyone enjoyed sharing the meal and the company of their classmates, and the children were thrilled to show off their handmade creations.
October Recap
n October, we learned about our 5 Senses and Feelings. We had made group art collages for all 5 Senses. We had talked about how we could see our family, hear the sirens from fire trucks, smell flowers, taste our favorite foods, and touch different things. The children had enjoyed making a textured art collage of things we had collected! In the language class, we had learned the sounds for the letters “e”- “h”. We had used our Mystery Bag to sort objects that started with those sounds. The children had loved matching ‘e’ to elephant, ‘g’ for gorilla, and more! We had so much fun celebrating Halloween with our families at school. All of the children had looked adorable dressed in costumes. They had a blast showing them off during the parade and getting treats! We had continued the Halloween fun with games and making Halloween snacks in our classroom.
September 2023
What a wonderful month back at school! We had so much fun learning the theme “All About Me”! We had so much fun discovering more about ourselves and each other. The toddlers learned to count from 1-4 using cards and counters to match quantity to symbols (numerals). We’ve learned that the school bus is a form of transportation to school. At circle time, we sang the “Wheels on the Bus” and “The Continent Song!”
We practiced the letter sounds orally and traced the letters A. Tracing these sandpaper letters is an introduction to writing. We also used concrete learning by introducing physical objects in Language. Each object represented the sound of a letter, like “b-b-bee” for “b.”
Summer 2023
Our Summer went by so fast at PCMA! Our toddlers enjoyed two months of fun outdoor activities. Our water activities were perfect for cooling off. We loved our water day and bubble day on Fridays. We would enjoy sitting in the shade with friends and an ice-cold popsicle treat! During the Summer, we also discussed The 4th of July, Outer Space, The Farm, Oceans, Volcanoes, Camping, and much more! Every themed curriculum would include fun learning activities involving erupting a volcano, flying paper airplanes, or even creating our own Olympics to practice our balance and strength. Every theme had very creative art projects to make and yummy snacks that followed each piece.
Thank you for a wonderfully fun summer!
